RV Window Shades: What Airxcel Announced for 2026

RV window shades do more than add privacy. The right design can reduce glare, control heat, improve sleep and eliminate dangling cords that get in the way. Airxcel announced several new shade designs on August 14, 2026, through its MCD Innovations and United Shade brands. The announcement gives RV owners a useful look at where window treatments are heading, but it does not mean every product is already available as a universal retrofit.

The new lineup was presented for Airxcel’s 2026 New Product Showcase in Elkhart, Indiana. Most of the announcement is written for RV manufacturers, so owners should treat fit, retail availability and compatibility as questions to verify rather than assumptions.

New RV window shades shown for 2026

MCD Encompass pleated and roller shades

MCD Innovations introduced two framed Encompass designs. The Encompass RV Pleated Shade is offered in night-only or day/night configurations, uses cordless operation and places the shade inside an aluminum frame. MCD also describes quick installation as part of the design.

The Encompass RV Roller Shade uses a frame-mounted design intended to cover the full window and reduce the light gaps that can appear along the sides of a conventional roller shade. It is also offered in night-only or day/night configurations.

For an RV owner, the frame is the important part of the announcement. Better edge coverage can help in a bedroom where early sunlight enters around the fabric. A contained system can also look cleaner than exposed cords and mounting points. It still needs to fit the window opening, nearby valance, emergency-exit hardware and the path of any crank or latch.

United Shade targets heat, privacy and simpler operation

United Shade announced several products with different jobs. The Angler Shade uses a nearly invisible fluorocarbon line and custom sizing intended to reduce light leakage. A Pleated Reflective Shade adds a reflective backing that the manufacturer says helps reduce heat buildup and UV exposure, with blackout fabric for privacy and light control.

The Day/Nite Baseline Roller Shade combines light-filtering and blackout fabrics. Its slow-rise spring mechanism is designed to lock at nearly any height. That lets an owner lower the privacy layer without completely blocking daylight, then use the blackout layer when more light control is needed.

What the announcement does not confirm

Airxcel’s release identifies the designs and features, but it does not publish retail prices, model-by-model dimensions, retrofit kits or a consumer availability date. It also does not claim that the shades fit existing MCD or United Shade hardware. These are announced products shown to the industry, not confirmed drop-in replacements for every coach.

That distinction matters because RV windows are not standardized around one shade opening. Two windows with the same glass size can have different trim depth, valance clearance and mounting structure. A framed shade may need more usable perimeter space than a fabric-only replacement.

How to judge an RV shade upgrade

Before ordering any RV window shade, measure the opening in several places. Record the width at the top, center and bottom, then do the same for height. Also measure the available mounting depth. Check for cabinet doors, window cranks, emergency-exit handles and slide-room trim that could interfere with the shade or its frame.

  • Choose blackout material for sleeping areas where edge light and privacy matter most.

  • Use a day/night design where you want daytime privacy without making the room dark.

  • Consider reflective backing on windows that receive strong afternoon sun, but keep expectations realistic. A shade can reduce solar heat entering the living space, but it does not add insulation to the wall or repair failed window seals.

  • Prefer cordless or contained-line designs in high-traffic areas where loose cords can snag on furniture, pets or cargo.

Mounting strength matters as much as dimensions. Screws need a solid backing or the attachment method specified for the wall construction. A shade fastened only to thin decorative paneling can loosen as the RV moves.

Maintenance still determines how well shades work

Keep roller tracks, cords and lower rails free of grit. Dust can increase drag and make a slow-rise mechanism feel uneven. Use a soft brush or low-suction vacuum attachment on fabric, and follow the manufacturer’s cleaning directions before applying any liquid cleaner.

If a roller shade rises crooked, stop and inspect it instead of repeatedly snapping it up. Uneven tension, a loose bracket or fabric tracking to one side can worsen with continued use. On pleated shades, frayed line, uneven folds or a rail that will not stay level are early signs that adjustment or restringing may be needed.

Moisture also deserves attention. A closed shade can trap damp air against cool glass. If you see water collecting at the sill, use the checks in our RV condensation guide and allow enough airflow for the glass and frame to dry.

The practical takeaway

The 2026 announcements show a clear direction for RV window shades: fewer exposed cords, better edge coverage, more control over daylight and blackout, and materials aimed at solar heat and UV exposure. Those are meaningful improvements when the shade is correctly sized and installed.

For current RV owners, the next step is not to assume that a newly announced shade will fit. Start with accurate measurements, identify the job each window needs to do and confirm whether the manufacturer or dealer supports retrofit sales for that exact design. A well-matched shade can make the coach more comfortable without turning a simple upgrade into a trim or mounting repair.
